Hop-on launches disposable cell phone in Europe

Hop-on, Inc. announced today that its low end GSM cell phone with no LCD screen is hopping all over the European Markets! Just in the last two weeks of introducing the disposable cell phone, Hop-on has received orders for over 150,000 pieces and more each day.

Peter Michaels, President of Hop-on stated, "We are getting so many inquiries about the 'disposable cell phone' in Europe and the Middle East, we will be hiring additional support to meet the market demands. We will not have any manufacturing issues in the low cost 900/1800 MHz phone utilizing both Texas Instruments chip sets and Infineon chip sets as they are proven technology."

Michaels of Hop-on also stated, "This is our biggest opportunity to actually have Hop-on become a household name in the US and throughout Europe. No one sells a new 10 pounds Sterling GSM cell phone. This is a home run for Hop-on. While we are excited about the interest generated in the European Markets, we don't currently have the resources to market our new disposable cell phone in the United States. This will come in time. We want to focus on the European and Middle East markets and then hire the personnel necessary to do it right in America!"

Vodafone bails out defunct MVNO Dot Mobile

Vodafone coughs up cash for troubled MVNO's customers and creditors, including 20:20

Vodafone has paid around £1 million to take on the 18,000 customers of student MVNO Dot Mobile, which went into administration last month.

Dot Mobile launched across 90 universities across the UK in 2005, offering bundles of ‘units’ instead of the traditional minutes or texts. It recruited customers by offering up to £80 for successful referrals.

Vodafone, which supplied the airtime for Dot Mobile, agreed with administrators Smith and Williamson that it would pay an estimated £1 million for customer information. It has agreed to migrate customers to Vodafone tariffs of equal or better value, and to pay any outstanding referral bonuses.

The £1 million will pay Dot Mobile creditors, which include handset distributor 20:20.

Allister Manson, associate director of administrator Smith and Williamson, said: “Vodafone has honoured its commitment to provide these services so there should be no disruption to customers.”

Manson added that although Dot Mobile subscriber numbers had been rising, its MVNO agreement with Vodafone was due to expire in May 2009. Vodafone said it would not renew this contract, and Dot Mobile was unsuccessful in finding a replacement network partner.
Vodafone declined to comment except to say it was working with the administrator.

O2 wins massive BMW contract from Voda

Contract for UK and Germany thought to be worth 25,000 handsets

O2 has scored a massive multinational corporate contract with BMW, its third big win from rival Vodafone in as many months.

The deal covers Germany and the UK, and is understood to be worth around 20,000 handsets in Germany and up to 5,000 in the UK. It follows big contract wins with Network Rail in the UK, for 23,000 handset lines, and industrial company Saint Gobain, won ahead of Vodafone among others and worth 6,000 lines.

O2 UK director of business sales Ben Dowd said: “It was a group bid, a multinational win; from Vodafone. When you take the fact it’s Germany and the UK on one account, it’s a very big win for Telefónica."
